Here we go breaking the rules again. The Northern Side Notch point style was typical for the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, southern Columbia Plateau, and the Snake River plains. The most commonly used materials is obsidian, chalcedony, rhyolite, and local chert. This point however, is made from Purple Mookaite Jasper from Mooka Station, which was a large sheep grazing property in Australia at one time. An interesting thing about Mookaite is that its actually petrified mud. So while his may be a Northern Side Notch style point, the rock it is made of definitely came from down under. Something tells me the the tribes of this area would have loved to get their hands on this gorgeous stone from half way around the globe.
